Vogel im Käfig

The French thinker Rousseau once said, "Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains." It seems as though an invisible force holds us back perpetually. The title of my project, "Bird in a Cage," draws from this concept. Through this installation, I aim to guide viewers to contemplate the meaning and limitations of freedom and unfreedom, order and chaos, eternity and temporality, existence and nothingness.

In this installation, the balloon serves as a figurative representation of the bird, symbolizing us humans. For the design of the installation, I repurposed an old television set. The television's most fundamental function is observation, and through its square screen, it appears to connect to every corner of the world. From this vantage point, we observe the world and ourselves.

While within this so-called world, we find ourselves ensnared, surrounded by syringes symbolizing the bonds of captivity - pain, fear, danger, and stress - much like a cage that confines us.

Simultaneously, I programmed the installation. A continuously rotating fan responds to temperature, humidity, and light, generating variable winds meant to mimic the real, ever-changing, and imperceptible outside world. These conditions may be influenced by specific times, cultures, countries, families, political climates, or natural occurrences.

Our only means of resistance is by manipulating a joystick to effect minor changes. However, it often feels futile, as we seem unable to enact significant change, left only to grope blindly and wait endlessly for a way out.

笼中鸟

法国思想家卢梭说过，人是生而自由的，却无往不在枷锁之中。好像是有一种无形的力量，一直在约束着我们，也许是命运、责任、道义、法律……我项目的标题笼中鸟就由此而来。我试图通过这件装置让观众可以站在一个分界点上去感知关于自由与束缚、秩序与混乱、永恒与临时、存在与虚无的意义与界限。

在这个装置中我使用气球作为鸟的具象表达，而鸟则是我们人类的投影和映射。为了戏剧化的表达，我使用一台旧的电视机作为装置的外壳，因为电视的最原始的功能是观看，透过那块方形的屏幕似乎能够连接到世界任何一个角落。由此我们可以观察世界，也能观察自己。

当我们处在所谓的世界之中时，却又困于其中，而周围则遍布着象征着可以束缚自由的针管——痛苦、害怕、危险、压力仿佛是一个囚笼把我们困住。

同时我对这个装置进行了编程。不断旋转的风扇通过感知温度、湿度以及光照产生时大时小的风，来模拟真实、多变又不可见的外界，它或是时代、或是文化、或是国家、或是政治、或是家庭又或是自然条件等等。

而我们只能通过摇杆产生一些微小的变化来抵抗，但似乎又不能改变什么。我们似乎无处可逃，只有盲目的尝试和无尽的等待。
