Isolated Voices
The outbreak of the coronavirus in China in February 2020 profoundly impacted lives worldwide, particularly in China initially and subsequently in Europe. Masks became ubiquitous, slowing the virus's spread but also isolating us from the world, amplifying voices once overlooked.
In response, I embarked on a collection journey, gathering items, food, and medicine from isolated patients, and subjected them to crushing. The resulting sounds were meticulously recorded and integrated into noise clips on vinyl, with the crushed objects scattered unevenly atop as 'impurities.'
Vinyl was chosen for its analog recording properties, mirroring the analog nature of the 'impurities.' Through this approach, I seek to engage our senses of sight, hearing, and touch, immersing them in the experience of isolation, where the pursuit of 'empathy' becomes the focal point of the design.
